Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming OC 16GB GDDR7 Graphics Card

The Gigabyte RTX 5080 Gaming OC is a flagship-tier graphics card on NVIDIA's Blackwell architecture, with 16GB of GDDR7 memory on a 256-bit bus, a factory overclock and a triple-fan WINDFORCE cooling system. It is aimed at 4K gaming and sustained heavy graphics workloads.

Key Features

  • Triple-fan WINDFORCE cooling shows up in sustained performance

A larger cooler does not raise peak performance — it raises sustained performance. Graphics cards reduce clocks once they hit a thermal limit, and stronger cooling pushes that point further out, keeping the card at higher clocks through long gaming sessions and render jobs.

  • Fans stop completely at low load

The WINDFORCE system uses a full fan-stop mode below a temperature threshold, so the card is silent while browsing or watching video, with fans spinning up only under real load.

  • 16GB of GDDR7 memory

Moving from GDDR6X to GDDR7 raises memory bandwidth substantially at the same bus width. The clearest benefit is at 4K and with ultra-high-resolution textures, where memory rather than compute is the bottleneck.

  • Pre-validated factory overclock

The OC designation means Gigabyte raised the core clock above reference with a factory-tested tune. You get extra performance out of the box with no manual work and none of the risk of overclocking yourself.

Gaming OC or Aero OC SFF? — Which to Choose

We stock two RTX 5080 variants with the same GPU and the same memory, differing in cooling and size:

Variant

Best for

Gaming OC — this page

Full-size mid or full tower cases, prioritising cooling, quietness and sustained performance

Aero OC SFF

Compact small form factor cases, prioritising dimensions and fitment

Gaming performance is close between the two. The real difference is temperature, noise level and case fitment.

This card is right for you if you…

  • Game at 4K or very high-refresh 1440p

  • Play or render for long sessions and need clocks that do not drop

  • Care about noise levels in an enclosed room

  • Have a full-size case with room for a triple-fan card

Consider something else if…

  • Your case is compact — look at the Aero OC SFF variant instead

  • You game only at 1080p — you will be CPU-bound and will not use the card

  • Your CPU is an older generation — it will bottleneck the card and waste much of its value

Recommended Build Pairing

To run it without bottlenecking, pair it with a Ryzen 7 9700X or Intel Core i7-14700 and above, 32GB of DDR5 memory, and a high-quality PSU with sufficient wattage and the modern power connector. Before buying, measure your case's internal clearance against the card's stated length — triple-fan cards need more room than people expect.

FAQ

What is the difference between the RTX 5080 Gaming OC and the Aero OC SFF?

The GPU and memory are identical. The difference is cooling and size: the Gaming OC is larger with triple-fan cooling for full-size cases, while the SFF is compact and designed for small form factor builds.

Does the factory overclock affect the warranty?

No. A factory overclock is an official, pre-tested tune from the manufacturer and is entirely different from user-applied manual overclocking.

Is 16GB enough for 4K gaming?

Yes, 16GB is sufficient for current 4K titles at high settings. Games exceeding that are very rare today.

Does it need a large case?

It needs a full-size case with room for a triple-fan card. Check the stated maximum GPU length against your case's internal clearance before buying.

Will it work on a PCIe 4.0 motherboard?

Yes, backward compatibility works normally. The gap between PCIe 4.0 and 5.0 in games is very small at present.
